Make Minor Minneapolis Air Conditioning Repairs Before Summer Heat Hits

Minneapolis Air Conditioning Unit

It may not seem like it now, but in a few weeks’ time we’re going to be basking in hot temperatures again. And that means it’s time to talk Minneapolis air conditioning repairs because the last thing anyone wants is to flip on the cool switch and get no response.

There are a number of minor repairs and checks homeowners can do to avoid such a scenario. It also pays to become familiar with your air conditioning unit so you can better describe to a professional what the problems might be.

Air conditioners are large systems consisting of two components; the condenser, typically located outside the house, and the evaporator which is mounted next to the furnace so the furnace blower can send the cool air through the home.

To make sure your unit is in tip top shape, follow these 4 tips:

1. Get The Power Going – Prior to starting your air conditioner after a long period of inactivity, turn on the power to the unit for at least 24 hours before actually using it.

2. Replace The Filters – Most people don’t think about changing their furnace filter during air conditioning season, but keep in mind the air is moving through the same space. Lack of air flow is the leading causing of air conditioning. Check the side of filter to determine how often you should change your filter.

3. Clean The Unit – When you replace your filters, clean the area surrounding it of excess debris. In addition, clear the evaporator drain by removing the trap, flushing it with water then putting a teaspoon of bleach in the trap to clean it.

4. Check The Fan Blades – Inspect your blades to see if they are missing screws or have been damaged. Loose screws can be tightened with a screwdriver.

It’s always wise to have a regular check up from a Minneapolis air conditioning repair expert. Call Welter Heating for a $99 Clean and Check.
