Now that we finally have some snow on the ground, it’s our duty to make the most of it. And that means it’s time to hit the sledding hills. Below we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite Twin Cities sledding hotspots that you have to check out this winter.

And, side note for you, most of the hills we’ve rounded up are unsupervised and therefore do not have formal days or hours they are open. For safety, we suggest sledding only during daylight hours.

The Best Sledding Hills in St. Paul: Slip, Slide Away

St. Paul is a sledding-lovers dream, with more than 15 hills to test your sled skills. If you’re looking for an exciting ride consider Highland Park Community Center or Baker Park for a nice, steep slope. Do you prefer to go gentle? Prosperity Park or Orchard Field are your best choices. And for something in between, try out Frost Lake or Margaret Parks.

“Theo Wirth is the a perfect hill for kids of all ages! The ride is fast enough for the older kids, but safe enough for the little ones. The hill is steep enough to be fun, but not too steep to hike back up after a run. We can spend hours here!” – Joshua Nite, Twin Cities Dad of Two.

Minneapolis has three designated sledding hills. The fairway transforms into a sledding paradise at Theodore Wirth Park and the Columbia Golf Course. But if you want to see a stunning sunset with your ride, be sure to hit Valley View Park at dusk.

Do you want to avoid the crowds of popular Twin Cities sledding hotspots? You may want to explore outside of the city. For impressive views, check out Staring Lake Park. Need hills for every age? Adams Hill is a smart choice. And if you love the danger of a potential wipe out, visit Snail Lake Park. Need to rent a sled? Lowry Nature Center and a few others in the Three Rivers Park District have rentals for as cheap as $1!
