The HOTtest Twin Cities Movie Theaters: Find Your Perfect Match

Popcorn and movies

There is no doubting the benefit of living in the hustle and bustle of the Twin Cities when it comes to the movie-going options. Where smaller towns have one theater showing four movies, the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area has dozens of movie theaters showing a wide-array of different films.

No matter what your movie-going personality is, there’s an option for you. Some people desire luxury, comfort, and dining options. Others dig a vintage feel, indie-film selection, or additional entertainment. There are even people that like to go to the movies so they can eat popcorn until they’re sick to their stomach.

Regardless of your style or taste, there is a Twin Cities movie theater to fit your unique preference.

8 of the Best Twin Cities Movie Theaters

1. Saint Anthony Main Theater

Location: Minneapolis
Type of Movie Goer: The Romantic

Do you like to package your movie-going experience with a little romance? Then Saint Anthony Main is the spot for you. It’s nestled in the perfect date night location, right beside the gorgeous Mississippi River. Rehash the flick with your date by taking a moonlit stroll on the cobblestone streets across the Stone Arch Bridge and toward the Mill City Museum. Get a little lost in the nearby Father Hennepin Bluff Park, a beautiful place to meander as long as you didn’t just finish seeing a horror flick. Of course, you can always grab dinner and a glass of wine at any number of the theater’s neighboring restaurants. The options are endless.

Saint Anthony Main offers great specials on Tuesdays and their newly upgraded seating makes for comfortable viewing.

2. Riverview

Location: South Minneapolis
Type of Movie Goer: The Popcorn Enthusiast

Hands down, the Riverview has the best popcorn in town. Their secret salt to REAL butter ratio is the key to their magical movietime snack success. Riverview offers a classic theater experience with their singular over-sized theater. Come for the sensational popcorn, stay for the comfy and sleek lobby and evergreen 1950’s aesthetic.

3. Lagoon Cinema

Location: Uptown
Type of Movie Goer: The Tasteful Hipster

You have no interest in seeing the 114th Fast and Furious movie. You want small budgets, nuanced camera angles, and layered storytelling.

The Uptown Lagoon Cinema boasts great seats, awesome coffee drinks, and their popcorn is served in eco-friendly bags. Located in the thick of Uptown, the theater is conveniently located next to several watering holes for post-movie debates.

The Lagoon is a fine theater that consistently offers many of the not-so- blockbuster films that larger movie theater chains seem to miss out on.

4. Roseville AMC

Location: Roseville
Type of Movie Goer: The Bigger the Better

If you want to catch the latest superhero or Star Wars flick on the biggest possible screen, look no further than AMC. AMC has several great locations in the Twin Cities Metro, but our favorite is the Roseville branch with its massive IMAX screens. The size and wonder of IMAX perfectly complements the fast-paced action of large blockbuster movies.

5. The Heights Theater

Location: Northeast
Type of Movie Goer: They Just Don’t Make Them Like They Used To

A renovated vintage theater that originally opened in 1926, the Heights Theater is the perfect place for fans of classical and influential films. Though they occasionally show modern films, most of the time the Heights shows classics A special bonus for nostalgia buffs, the Heights occasionally will run movies on 35MM film.

If you’d rather see an Alfred Hitchcock classic than a CGI-infused blockbuster, the Heights is your spot.

6. The Hopkins 6

Location: Hopkins
Type of Movie Goer: The Bargain Buyer

The Hopkins 6 is your type of venue if you love seeing hit movies but hate the prices at first-run theaters. It’s one of very few multi-screen cheap seat theaters left in the area. The Hopkins 6 features $3 admission and a good blend of movies from different genres. Located in downtown Hopkins, there are plenty of restaurant options close by if you’re looking to make a night of it.

7. New Hope Cinema Grill

Location: New Hope
Type of Movie Goer: The Indecisive One

Can’t decide if you want to grab a pizza, go play Skee Ball, or catch a movie? The New Hope Cinema Grill offers all three to the indecisive movie goer. Visitors can play in the arcade or enjoy dinner while watching the movie at this multi-dimensional movie theater.

8. Alamo Drafthouse Twin Cities

The mission statement for the Alamo Drafthouse is, “good food, good beer, and good film, all at the same place.” They live up to this name by offering in-theater dining options and fun, strange movie experiences. You can go with friends to catch the latest blockbuster, hit up one of their many manic Movie Parties, or see an underground indie hit… all in the same place. The Alamo Drafthouse is the perfect solution for movie lovers who want everything in one place. As an added bonus, it’s located in the east metro, which offers an elevated film experience away from the busy metro.

These guys were my second call when my furnace stopped working properly. The first company I used sent a tech out who said the furnace needed to be replaced, and gave me a quote, but said he "jiggled a wire" and got it running again for the time being.

When it went out again the other day, I called Ray N. Welter. Their tech, Ralph, fixed the problem in half an hour. He told me the furnace is pretty old, but his fix should get me through the winter "and maybe a couple more," and then gave me a quote that was lower than the first company.

These guys are rad.

Furnace stopped working. When that happens after hours you learn a lot about companies. Today I called RW and got a person on the phone that knows about furnaces and he dispatched a service person Phil within 2 hours. I called them based on personal refer and reviews. They are excellent. Despite having a very old furnace it was the second time that this company said I did not need to replace. If I did replace it I want a Trane and RW would do to the work. For now I will call them for fall/spring tune ups and love that they don't have the club memberships etc. Just good solid customer service for all customers. A really ++ experience. Family run business with integrity.

If you need superior service this is your company!!! We were in Florida experiencing our first year as "snowbirds" when our furnace (in Bloomington) stopped working. Rick Welter personally took our call and not only sent a technician to our cold home, but checked on it for the next two days until our new heating unit could be properly installed. Phenomenal service!

In addition to the great service, their pricing was very competitive. I highly recommend this company for all of your heating or A/C needs!!!
