Did you know that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that over the next decade, chances of getting a job as an HVAC installer or mechanic will be better than ever? To be specific, their statistics show the HVAC industry being able to offer over 15,000 new jobs in the next few years alone. These numbers may not seem like much, but in comparison to most industries, they’re far better than average!
Good prospects aren’t the only reason that the HVAC industry is a good one to consider joining, either. In fact, we’ve listed eight more for you in today’s post.
HVAC will always require on-site installation. New systems are always being developed in the HVAC industry. When new systems are introduced, they need to be built. Home and business owners need assistance updating their homes. Nearly 100% of new homes built in the last twenty years have HVAC technology. Someone needs to take care of that, on-site, and that’s something that can’t be automated.
There’s a lot of opportunity for individuals interested in an eco-friendly career. A lot of young people entering the job market are passionate about the world they live in. They speak up and speak out. One of the many causes being championed is the preservation of the environment. Much of new HVAC technology is developed with this cause in mind, which makes the field a good draw.
There’s a lot of growth opportunity. Starting out as an entry level technician doesn’t mean that you’ll be one for the rest of your life. In this industry, there are many opportunities to develop your skills. You’ll find opportunities to gain new certifications and titles, making you more valuable as a potential asset to any company you work with. More value means more money – and who doesn’t love that?
You’ll have the opportunity to meet a lot of different people. One unique benefit of a career in the HVAC industry is your unmatched opportunity to meet many different people. If you live for hearing anecdotes and stories from unique perspectives as an addition to your usual day job, this is a good industry for you.
You get to help the people you meet. Not only do you meet different people, some of which will be undeniably memorable, you get to help them. There aren’t many modern careers that allow you to immediately see the fruits of your labor. Being able to feel the immediate gratitude of the people whose homes you’re helping make more comfortable is a gift to all HVAC techs.
You don’t have to sit at a desk all day. A career in heating and air has many benefits. One of the biggest ones is that each day you’ll experience something new. You won’t have to suffer through the monotony of sitting at a desk day in and day out. You’ll be able to get out into the world, and every day you’ll see something new or different.
The pay is competitive. The trades are a viable career option, period. This includes the pay you receive. Remember that HVAC careers don’t always require a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Many technician jobs can be acquired with certificates alone. This makes the average starting pay of $20/hr at minimum (with large growth and bonus potential) a great place to start.
You get to stay active. If health and wellness are important to you, why not pursue a career where physical activity is part of your day to day? Not everyone is suited to sitting down all day. If you thrive in environments where things are never too static, HVAC could be exactly what you’re looking for.
If you feel inspired by this post, there are plenty of next steps you can take. You can look into local HVAC schools and programs or, if you’d rather get in touch with existing professionals, you can contact the team at Welter Heating to see what our current openings are.
